Microsoft Teams is a collaboration tool like no other. It enables users to manage their calendar, chat to their colleagues, collaborate on documents, hold meetings and so much more, all from just one application. The only thing missing is the ability to easily make voice calls to non-Teams users; to add calls to the Teams Phone System, you need to use either Microsoft Calling Plans, which can be restrictive and costly, or Direct Routing, which is where we come in.
Our Direct Routing product enables you to continue to provide SIP just like you do today, without worrying about how to add your new SIP trunk to your customer Teams account, because with SIP2teams we automate the Microsoft PowerShell set up and all the Teams enabled SBCs with one click of a button. Using SIP2teams, you can continue to manage your customers existing voice lines, numbers and bundles while they benefit from a telephone system within Teams, bringing together all the key communication and collaboration functions in a single app.
A Forrester report, commissioned by Microsoft, demonstrates how small businesses can cut costs by using a Teams Direct Routing solution. The report showed how using voice with Teams helped improve employee productivity through saving time with more efficient communication and an improved call experience. It also contributed to increased sales due to improved voice communications, while overall telecommunications costs were reduced due to less maintenance and lower calling costs.
As the Teams user base continues to grow, with Microsoft reporting that their base has grown to 75 million since the COVID-19 lockdown, the opportunity to supply voice services into these users is becoming more and more exciting, but it’s not without its limitations.
How it works
It’s not easy for a reseller to set up their own Direct Routing solution for Teams; it requires a Teams accredited Session Border Controller (SBC), extensive experience with Microsoft, a SIP Trunking carrier, somewhere to host it and a certified network engineer to maintain it. At DWS, we understand that very few of our partners can tick all those boxes, which is why we’ve made it simple for you.
All your customers need is an Office 365 licence and a compatible Microsoft add-on for Voice capability.
Why choose SIP2teams
As one of the biggest independent voice providers in the UK, with over 2,200 partners, both large and small, we are well equipped to support our partners with Direct Routing. While Microsoft offer their own calling plans for Teams, they are primarily a technology company, lacking the experience in the communications industry to truly understand their users.
For example, Microsoft Business Voice boasts lots of fantastic features; it has the capability to provide a Phone System with conferencing, packaged to include domestic calls; for the UK, this includes UK local, national and mobile. But if you want to dial other numbers, you’ll need to buy pre-paid communication credits and the pence per minute rates on these calls can be steep, compared to what we are used to.
With SIP2teams, we offer an alternative, with more inclusive minutes and lower cost calls to international and other UK numbers. Factor in that your customer now doesn’t need to ring up for calling credit every time they go over their allowance and you’ve got the perfect solution to enable employees to save time and improve their calling experience.

The market opporunity for Teams Direct Routing is exponential, and with SIP2teams, you can add value to your business and make fantastic margins of up to 50% while helping bring an essential product to your customers’ business.
Gartner has reported that over 40% of new business telephony purchases will include a Cloud-based office suite, such as Microsoft Teams, by 2023, so it is important not to underestimate the potential that Teams offers.
Microsoft is boasting 7 million active daily Teams users in the UK, however, only 8% of those users are currently able to use the application for voice. This means there is a huge market out there for the taking.
The approaching PSTN switch off is also a driving force behind SIP2teams as businesses prepare themselves for the withdrawal of traditional telephony by moving to SIP and VoIP. Your customers who have already taken the first step towards IP telephony with SIP trunking are in the perfect position to take advantage of SIP2teams as they already have the technology to make it work. This means no site visits or installation required as it can all be deployed remotely.
Furthermore, you don’t need to be selling Microsoft to sell SIP2teams. Non-Microsoft partners are able to bring Direct Routing to Teams, meaning you could access a new market of Teams users. However, if you already offer Teams, you will be able to provide your customers with a complete solution of communication and collaboration tools that ticks all the boxes.
